Most Popular Drone: DJI Phantom 2 Vision+

Most Popular Drone: DJI Phantom 2 Vision+

One of the first decisions you have to make when getting into UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) is which one you want for the type of flying you want to do. Last week we asked you for your favorites, then looked at the five best drones overall. Now we're back to highlight your favorite.

Most Popular Drone: DJI Phantom 2 Vision+

It looks like most of you are more interested in long range, durability, and a remote controlled platform for breathtaking photos and HD video than anything else, so the DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ earned the top spot in our poll, with close to 41% of the overall vote. That's no surprise, it's also The Wirecutter's pick for the best overall model, although they suggest one of our other options as the best for beginners.

In true Lifehacker form, the second and third place spots went to options that embody the DIY spirit. Second place went to Do It Yourself, as in joining a community like the ones at DIYDrones.com or the DIYDrones subreddit, learning about different parts and frame types for the type of flying you want to do, and building the perfect flyer for you based on that. Third place went to the Lumenier QAV250, a lightweight, small airframe that's designed to be customized and assembled before you fly, and to help give you a headstart into building and tweaking your own drones, with over 16% of the overall vote. Fourth place and over 11% went to the Parrot Bebop, packing a fisheye HD camera in a small, portable body. Bringing up the rear in fifth was The Wirecutter's pick for the best for beginners and a small, tough drone, the BLADE Nano QX, with just shy of 7% of the votes cast.

For more on each of these, make sure you head back to our full Hive Five feature to read more.

The Hive Five is based on reader nominations. As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five. We understand it's a bit of a popularity contest. Have a suggestion for the Hive Five? Send us an email at tips+hivefive@lifehacker.com!
