“Pre-Draft” Emails to Save Your Coworkers Time

Many of our emails are asking the recipient to contact a third party on our behalf. It might be for a status update or just a follow-up. If you include the suggested text, you'll save everyone time and get the email out faster.

The wise folks at Ridiculously Efficient call this a "pre-draft" email and the concept is simple:

When you send an email to someone and include a message beneath that you've written for them so all they have to do is cut, paste, personalize the copy and send it off

This isn't that different from those templates political groups send you to write your member of Congress. They do the hard work and all you have to do is sign your name to it. This way you make it as easy as possible for someone to send the email on your behalf. The typical emails that work for pre-drafting are:

  • Testimonials
  • Follow up emails
  • Cold introductions for networking
  • Delegation and handoffs
  • Blogs and social media posts

Check out the link and video for samples of these messages and why they're effective.
