Most Popular Weather Web Site: Weather Underground

Most Popular Weather Web Site: Weather Underground

Whether you're heading out across town or across the country, a reliable, accurate weather forecast makes the difference between comfort and aggravation. Last week we asked you where you got your forecasts, then looked at the five best weather web sites. Now it's time to crown your favorite.

Most Popular Weather Web Site: Weather Underground

While the top five definitely looked different this time around, the winner hasn't changed: Weather Underground took the top spot by a wide margin, with close to 47% of the total votes cast. For many of you, its accuracy, ease of use, and its Wundermap, are all just unparalleled. Some of you happily pay for memberships, too, so you get access to tons of additional weather data to geek out with.

Second place went to probably the source of a lot of that data, and definitely the source for most other weather web sites around the web: The National Weather Service/NOAA, with over 27% of the vote. Many of you pointed out that there's no reason to use another service when you can go to the source. The battle for third place was more heated, but Forecast.io settled into the spot with just shy of 10% of the overall vote, thanks to its no-nonsense but attractive forecasts. Fourth place went to WeatherSpark, with 9% of the vote, with those of you voting praising its maps and charts, and the sheer density of information provided on one page. Bringing up the rear with over 7% of the votes cast was The Fucking Weather, which, well, gives you exactly what it promises—no more, no less.

The Hive Five is based on reader nominations. As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five.
