Add Personal, Healthy To-Dos to Your List to Take Care Of Yourself First

Add Personal, Healthy To-Dos to Your List to Take Care Of Yourself First

It's not uncommon for our to-do lists to get cluttered with things that other people need from us. It's easy to forget to take care of ourselves first. This tip is simple: Make sure your to-dos include things that are good for and focused on you—then make sure you check them off.

If you look at your to-do list and see a ton of things that you have to do for other people, it can be easy to get a little discouraged and think that you never have time for yourself—or worse, that the only things you do are things other people need from you. Sure, "go the the gym" should make an appearance on your to-do list, but other things, like an alert to treat yourself to lunch every Wednesday, or a checkbox to remind yourself to drink plenty of water today, can remind you to do something for you. Plus, they're so easy to check off that you'll feel motivated to work on the rest of your list.

The tip comes from the folks at Apartment Therapy, who suggest fulling your to-do list with good, healthy, and personal tasks as well as the other stuff you need to get done—and then doing what it takes to make sure you get around to taking care of yourself, since it's so easy to forget (and look up after hours of work only to suddenly realize you haven't moved, gotten up from your seat, and you're thirsty.) They also suggest reinforcing the healthy stuff by tackling it first, and building up some momentum you can use for the rest of your day. Hit the link below for the full breakdown.
